22 plate heat exchangers to cool new data center Down Under
Danfoss-owned Sondex Australia is proud to announce that they have been awarded the contract to supply 22 of AHRI certified large Plate Heat Exchangers (PHEs) to the new 30 MW prestigious S2 data center project in Sydney, Australia.
With a total weight of approximately 26,620 kilos of heat transfer equipment the contract includes for the design, engineering, supply, commissioning and maintenance of the data center exchangers with delivery expected for May 2018.
“The contractor is NEXTDC Limited, and we have worked with this client previously and they were very happy with our products and services. An important aspect of this project design was to provide AHRI certified PHEs. The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) is the trade association representing manufacturers of HVACR and water heating equipment within the global industry. Winning this order makes us truly proud because it is one of our largest project orders in our history of trading,” commented General Administration Manager Kim Miller, Sondex Australia.
The plate heat exchangers manufactured by Sondex will ensure cooling of super computers for storage of the client’s information “in the cloud”. The PHEs are used to cool the rooms where the computer systems are housed.
“The much-anticipated project will consist of Australia’s first NABERS 5-star rating for energy efficiency, and it will be a truly remarkable place. This amazing contract will create many more years of partnership with NEXTDC and continuous work for Sondex in both supplying new plate heat exchangers and service and maintenance of the current PHEs,” Kim Miller concluded.
Facts about the S2 facility
Practical completion of the new Sydney facility is expected first half of 2019. S2 will comprise ~ 8,700m2 of technical space and have a total IT capacity of 30MW at full fit-out.
Seamless cross-connection between S1 and S2 will be available from day one through NEXTDC Data Centre Interconnect, as will AXON Ethernet cloud on ramp for Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Express Route, Google Cloud Platform, IBM Cloud, Oracle Fast Connect, and other cloud on-ramps.
The order from Danfoss-owned Sondex Australia consists of 22 Plate Heat Exchangers (PHEs) model A62-IS6-187.
