22 plate heat exchangers to cool new data center
Danfoss-owned Sondex Australia have been awarded the contract to supply 22 of AHRI certified large Plate Heat Exchangers (PHEs). This contract is to their new 30 MW prestigious S2 data center project in Sydney, Australia.
Their is a total weight of approximately 26,620 kilos of heat transfer equipment the contract. Including for the design, engineering, supply, commissioning and maintenance of the data center exchangers with delivery expected for May 2018.

An important aspect of this project design was to provide AHRI certified PHEs. The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) is the trade association representing manufacturers of HVACR and water heating equipment within the global industry. Winning this order gives us pride. It is one of our largest project orders in our history of trading,”. Commented General Administration Manager Kim Miller, Sondex Australia.
The plate heat exchangers manufactured by Sondex will ensure cooling of super computers for storage of the client’s information “in the cloud”. The PHEs are used to cool the rooms where the computer systems are housed.
“The much-anticipated project will consist of Australia’s first NABERS 5-star rating for energy efficiency, and it will be a truly remarkable place. This amazing contract will create many more years of partnership with NEXTDC and continuous work for Sondex. We will supply new plate heat exchangers and service and maintenance of the current PHEs.” Kim Miller concluded.
Facts about the S2 facility
The vision of NEXTDC Limited is to build a second data center in Sydney. At 30MW it will be close to twice the size of their current S1 facility. The S2 Sydney site is now under construction. It will be located at Macquarie Park, Sydney, NSW – Australia.
Our practical completion of the new Sydney facility is expected first half of 2019. S2 will comprise ~ 8,700m2 of technical space and have a total IT capacity of 30MW at full fit-out.
Seamless cross-connection between S1 and S2 will be available from day one through NEXTDC Data Centre Interconnect, as will AXON Ethernet cloud on ramp for Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Express Route, Google Cloud Platform, IBM Cloud, Oracle Fast Connect, and other cloud on-ramps.
